Net Zero 

WSP is leading the engineering consultancy sector in committing to halving our carbon footprint. We join other key WSP regions - New Zealand, United Kingdom, Sweden and Denmark in this industry first commitment.

Social clubs

We enjoy our work and work hard to create great teams. Our offices host a range of activities including monthly Thursday/Friday drinks, EOFY celebrations, speakers, raffles, discounted tickets to movies and shows, weekend sporting events and more.

We have three employee resource groups (ERGs) that focus on promoting inclusion in the workplace: 

• Gender Balance advocates for, champions and raises awareness of gender equality issues, both internally and externally, provides support and leadership for various initiatives within the firm, and shares best practice on Gender matters.

• VIBE is our LGBTQ+ employee network and stands for Visibility and Inclusion in the Built Environment. 

• The Neurodiversity Working Group strives to make the WSP workplace more neurodiverse-friendly. 

Aboriginal participation and engagement

Our Reconciliation Action Plan provides a framework for bringing reconciliation into our client relationships and workplace. The actions and measurable targets under the three pillars of Relationships, Respect and Opportunities have been developed in consultation with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee. 
 
In Australia, we are actively working on ways to increase the participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in employment and education.   
 
WSP is also at the forefront of Indigenous co-design, working to shape a built environment that respects and honours Australia's first people. Established in 2018, the Indigenous Specialist Services (ISS) team redirects our focus to value Indigenous knowledge, providing design input for major projects. By integrating Indigenous knowledge and culture into infrastructure and built environment designs, we foster culturally respectful relationships with Indigenous communities and highlight their ongoing connection to Country.
 
This ground-breaking initiative addresses a gap in current reconciliation efforts in Australia, creating meaningful opportunities for Indigenous people, businesses, and communities throughout project lifecycles. It also prompts a discussion with clients about reconciliation, offering tangible ways to acknowledge culture and history in project designs, particularly in large public infrastructure projects. Our diverse team of Indigenous Australians works in various disciplines, including planning, cultural heritage, design graphics, architecture, urban planning, engineering, stakeholder engagement, and digital expertise.

Flexible/remote working/work from any office

WSP acknowledges that individuals, at all stages of their lives, work best when they can achieve an appropriate balance between their work life and personal life. We have a flexible working policy that is based around daily ‘core hours’ that meet the local client and business needs. 

Leave policies 

• Parental Leave: We offer 16 weeks paid Parental Leave for primary caregivers, 3 weeks Partner Leave, an enhanced value of annual leave upon return from parental leave and flexible return to work arrangements.

• Self-Funded Leave: You may purchase up to 4 additional weeks of leave on top of your 4 weeks of annual leave to improve your work life balance.

• Sorry Business: Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander employees may request leave to participate in Sorry Business.

• Domestic and Family Violence: we're dedicated to creating a workplace environment that is secure and supportive for employees impacted by domestic and family violence.

Wellness at work

WSP supports your health and wellbeing through various office led initiatives, such as lunchtime sporting activities (e.g. yoga, Pilates, run clubs, HIIT classes), providing influenza vaccinations, community involvement and sponsorship of charitable events.

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) 

Through an external provider, Assure, we provide confidential 24/7 counselling and holistic support for employees and their immediate family members. WSP covers the cost for up to eight sessions to help you address personal concerns through financial coaching, nutritional support and legal advice. 

Work|life links 

We have an external service that can help you finding support and services for assistance with child care, or any type of dependent care, health and fitness options in your area, tradespeople, removalists, etc. If you are time poor, this service will do the research for you and give you the results of their search. 

Salary continuance insurance

We provide all permanent employees who work more than 15 hours per week with salary continuance insurance cover. This provides a monthly benefit of 75% of salary after a period of 90 days continuous absence from work due to injury or illness. 

Superannuation 

WSP’s chosen Super Fund is Australian Retirement Trust and they offer low fees and competitive rates for insurance.

Success profiles

WSP's Success Profiles describe the competencies, experiences, organisational knowledge and personal attributes that an employee needs to be successful in a specific role. This enables employees to assess current skills, understand the expectations of their role and identify development needs through the Thrive+ program. They also help with career planning and development as they identify possible progression route. 

Thrive+

This is our framework to support career development and performance at WSP. Thrive provides the platform for you to grow in your career through real, regular and quality conversations, ongoing feedback, goal setting and development, with an online portal and various resources that you and your manager can use to get the most out of your career.

Emerging Professionals Network (EPN)

EPN is the group of professionals that aims to develop, empower, engage, and inspire graduates and professionals with 0-10 years' experience. We throw awesome events and run exciting projects throughout the year to allow emerging professionals to get to know each other and share their knowledge.

Practice Area Networks (PAN)

The PANs are WSP’s professional networks available to all our employees globally – there are currently 100+ technical and advisory PANs available for you to join. This engaging platform allows us to foster collaboration across our organisation globally and ultimately deliver more value to our clients by bringing our best expertise to the forefront across all our projects.

Mentoring and buddy system

Mentoring is one of the tools available at WSP to assist you with your learning and development. Mentoring is a relationship in which someone with identified abilities or competencies enables another person to develop their own abilities and talents. It encourages and supports the development of professional knowledge, competence and high standards of performance.

One of the ways in which we support personal development during the induction phase is to pair new starters with a buddy in their team. Consider your buddy as a “go-to” person who will provide insight and advice on the culture, the team, etc.

Reward and recognition programs

Applaud is a web-based platform that enables us to recognise and reward success instantly. Managers can reward team members with points, e-cards, and other gestures. You can redeem your points in the online gift store for a range of different rewards including gift cards, food and wine, technology, homewares, travel and experiences.

WSP provides financial support for one professional membership of industry institutions (or equivalent awarding body) per financial year. All permanent employees of WSP in Australia have the opportunity to become owners and vested partners in WSP's collective success by joining our Share Purchase Plan. The enrolment process is easy and voluntary, with simple contributions made through payroll deductions. Additionally, WSP will match 50% of your contributions, up to an annual cap.
