Building thriving communities

Our community work focuses on delivering essential services, supporting initiatives that drive positive change, and advancing sustainability projects.

Examples of our community engagements include:

Habitat for Humanity: Every year since 2019, US employees have participated in a nationwide Habitat for Humanity Build Day. In 2024, 600 employees participated in 30 projects acoss 22 states.

Water For People: As a firm with over 6,500 water professionals across the world, WSP continues to partner with Water For People. We work on projects that provide access to safe and sustainable water sources and sanitation facilities, especially in underserved communities and developing regions.

Bridges to Prosperity: For more than a decade, WSP has partnered with Bridges to Prosperity to improve the quality of life in rural communities by providing volunteer design and construction services. We have collaborated to deliver bridges in Bolivia, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama and Rwanda.

Great Places, for Life

On a business front, we launched a global initiative called Great Places, for Life which provides a clear direction to planning communities that are ready for the future. Our collaborative and holistic approach is based on six principles:

How a bold biodiversity commitment sparked a new path for mining and nature.

Capturing carbon by the tonne

WSP is providing environmental assessment, infrastructure planning and pre-FEED engineering advice to Cory Environmental Holdings Ltd. (Cory) in their development of a proposed carbon capture project situated in Belvedere in East London.

Helsinki, Finland

Build it and they will come

WSP carried out the construction design of the Kaisantunneli – a pedestrian and bicycling tunnel passing under the railway yard at Helsinki's main railway station, as well as the underground Bicycle Parking associated with the tunnel. In addition, we were responsible for the construction design of the tunnel entrances and street areas opening to Kansalaistori square and Kaisaniemi park. The tunnel connects the city center divided by the railway yard with a pedestrian path and bicycle lane, and provides bicycle connection parking under train platforms.

Tauranga, New Zealand

Living seawall rebuilds marine ecosystem

In 2024, Tauranga residents may have noticed some futuristic-looking concrete pods nestled in a new seawall at the northern end of the city's strand waterfront reserve. Installed by WSP coastal engineering experts, the pods are providing a home for intertidal flora and fauna while helping shore up the CBD’s sea defences.

Climate resilient airports

As the impacts of climate change are increasingly recognized, it is essential for companies, especially those managing and developing strategic infrastructures, to quickly implement tangible commitments and produce concrete strategies with precise planning. Aeroporti di Roma, with support from WSP in Italia, has proactively developed a strategy to mitigate the risks associated with climate change.

Warsaw, Poland

Historic garden goes green

Ulrich Gardens is a historic complex located in Warsaw's Wola district, near the Wola Park shopping center. The Sustainable Development Team of WSP in Poland was responsible for certifying three buildings located in the park, which is currently owned by Wola Park (Ingka Centres). The main goal of the project was to restore the park's significant role for the local community while maintaining sustainable development values.
