Increasing passenger demand, technological changes and sustainability goals are driving development plans in aviation. To support long-term growth, airports are focusing on asset management, process optimization, intermodal and environmental studies, electrification and use of sustainable aviation fuel. Leveraging WSP’s 15 years–plus experience and specialist knowledge of the Airport Carbon Accreditation requirements, as Program Administrator, WSP is continuing to support airports globally to manage and reduce emissions—to speed up their decarbonization journey toward the highest level, Level 5.

Application of technology to security, terminal navigation and baggage handling remains central to enabling a simplified passenger journey. Agility will be a critical factor in shaping innovative pathways that advance the passenger experience and support the evolving needs of airlines.

With so much uncertainty, building flexibility into long-term plans is key to accommodating and maximizing technological developments, such as electric-powered short-haul planes and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) taxis. The integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning will enable the industry to make better use of data to bolster cybersecurity and day-to-day operations overall.

On the aerospace front, WSP’s Centre of Excellence has established long-lasting relationships with manufacturers and airlines to help them develop maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities with the smallest environmental impact.

In support of achieving ambitious goals, WSP deliberately seeks to integrate sustainability into all our aviation consulting projects, ensuring they are not only fit for today’s technological, climatic, societal and resource needs, but play their part in securing those of the future.
